Vocaloid!

Hello there! In this blog, since I love Vocaloid and I listen to it on a daily basis, I’ll be writing about Vocaloid, or mainly Vocaloid songs. I do have a couple of theories in mind for a few songs, although some of them are from reading other people’s thoughts on the songs.

For some of you who don’t know what Vocaloid is, Vocaloid is basically a voice synthesizer software. You can say that they’re kind of like singing robots. It was a project led by Kenmochi Hideki, with Yamaha Corporation supporting it. It’s a software that allows people to use synthesized singing voices to create songs. The voices comes from various voice actors, the majority. The voices will be named and have a character design of their own. There are lot of Vocaloids, some of the famous ones being Hatsune Miku, Kagamine Rin and Kagamine Len, Megurine Luka, and more.

Vocaloids are able to sing in numerous languages. As far as I know, Vocaloids are able to sing in Japanese, English, Korean, Chinese and Spanish, although the majority of Vocaloids sing in Japanese. There are also songs that have Vocaloids sing in Tagalog, like COMA, which was made by Ensou and sung by GUMI, There’s also a song in Chinese called Chūlán ~First Storm~, which was made by DECO*27 and sung by Hatsune Miku.

The people who make songs using the Vocaloid software are called Vocaloid producers. There are lot of Producers who are well known for their songs, such as Giga-P, Hitoshizuku-P, Yama△, ryo, and more. My favorite producers are probably mothy, or Akuno-P, DIVELA, Omoi and Hachi.

There are lots of Vocaloid songs that I’m quite fond of, such as Greenlights Serenade by Omoi, Heaven’s Music by Yuuyu-P, Patchwork Staccato by toa, and more. However, one of my favorites would probably be Blessed Messiah and the Tower of AI, which is a song by Hitoshizuku-P and Yama△. It features 10 Vocaloids; Hatsune Miku, Kagamine Rin and Kagamine Len, KAITO, MEIKO, Kamui Gakupo, Megurine Luka, IA, MAYU, and GUMI.

Basically, a seamstress from a village, who is Miku, receives a letter from the oracle of another kingdom, which tells Miku that she is destined to become the next Messiah, which means she needs to obtain 9 ‘blessings’ from the Tower of AI to save the world. However, the blessings are actually tests, or curses, that God set up to see if she could endure them. She has the choice to either go through all of the tests alone, or split the curses between 9 other people. But since she’s completely unaware of that, she lets her friends accompany her to the Tower of AI.

Unfortunately, when they arrive at the tower, her friends betray Miku, and steal the ‘blessings’ for themselves, which makes Miku think that they only wanted to take the blessings.

At the end, Miku finally reaches the top of the tower, and sees an altar. 9 statues were arranged in a circle surrounding a pedestal, and red candles in their hands suddenly light up. There, she finds out that her friends had known about the curses being blessings all along, and they stole the ‘blessings’ on purpose so that Miku could save the world. Miku realizes that her friends were never greedy. They didn’t want her to suffer from enduring the curses and they only wanted to protect her. The Messiah accepts her fate as she smiles and reaches her hands to the altar. The ending is open to viewer’s interpretations.

Apparently, the human civilization had searched for power that surpasses human intellect. They mocked God, and the civilization earned God’s anger. And so, God sealed the 9 components that make up the world in a tower, which would slowly destroy the world. But then, a Messiah and their companions climbed the tower to beg for God’s forgiveness. They lit the world’s lifespan at the altar on top of the tower. The world’s lifespan was then followed by the light of a Messiah, who would be created every 15 years.

Personally, I think the tuning of the Vocaloids in this song was good, although MAYU’s tuning could’ve been a bit better. The art and the animation in the music video was amazing, I enjoyed it a lot. I do like how in the concept art of the characters, all of them wore a red pendant, which, in my opinion, shows a sign of their friendship. Overall, I think it’s a great song and more people need to listen to it.

Well, that concludes the first post on my weird blog. I really hope you liked it!
